My Background
Originally from Bethel Park, PA, Anita Miller's musical adventures have taken her all around the world. An accomplished performer, she is currently Principal Horn for Utah Chamber Artists, part of the Ballet West Orchestra, a member of Aspen Winds woodwind quintet (NOVA Music Project resident artists), a frequent sub with the Utah Symphony, successful studio musician and Adjunct Professor of Horn at Utah Valley University. Anita came to Utah after spending 17 years as a successful freelance horn player in New York City. She has performed with New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra under such conductors as Lorin Maazel, James DuPriest, and Kurt Masur. She also includes Utah Festival Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, Hartford Symphony, New Haven Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, New World Symphony, and National Symphonica de Santa Domingo among her many orchestral credits.
As a soloist, she was featured at the Jeunesse Musicales International Music Festival in Aberdeen, Scotland. More recently, she played first horn on Schumann’s virtuosic Konzerstüke for Four Horns and Orchestra with the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra and at the Salt Lake Tabernacle with the Utah Premiere Brass. In 2002, as part of FIVE: A Woodwind Quintet, she made her New York Debut with a sold-out concert at Weill Recital Hall through the Concert Artists Guild. Over the years, Anita has also worked with many ensembles including Music Ameci, New York Big Brass, Solid Brass, Harmonie Ensemble, Utah Wind Symphony, Trinity Church Concerts, and the Red Bank Chamber Music Concert Series.
Not limited to classical music, Ms. Miller had performed exstensively on Broadway with such shows as Beauty and the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, and many others. Additionally, she was a member of the Radio City Music Hall Orchestra, the BMI Big Band, and the Gotham Wind Symphony.
As an educator, Ms. Miller presents educational outreach concerts through NOVA Chamber Music Series as part of Aspen Winds and through A.R.T.S. Inc. as part of the Prevailing Winds Quintet. She previously taught at the Music Advancement Program at The Juilliard School, taught and mentored underserved students through The Midori Foundation, and taught at the prestigious Fieldston School in New York. Anita was previously awarded a Rural Residency Grant through Chamber Music America to give concerts and lectures throughout Maine.
Ms. Miller holds a Bachelor's in Music Education from Duquesne University and a Master's Degree in Horn performance from The Juilliard School where she was a student of Jerome Ashby. Her teachers include Jerome Ashby (New York Philharmonic/ Juilliard), Andrew Bain (Los Angeles Philharmonic), Scott Brubaker (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), Michelle Reed-Baker (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), Dave Wakefield (American Brass Quintet), Peter Gordon (Studio Musician), Julie Landsman (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), and Ronald Schneider (Pittsburgh Symphony).
